What brought you to work at Apex?
I had just entered the data conversion business with a different company in New York. A good friend and former co-worker of mine had joined Apex and invited me to interview. The opportunity presented by Apex was too good to pass and I was happy to relocate to Northern Virginia to work with Apex.
What are your favorite things about working at Apex?
My favorite things about working at Apex are the same things that brought me to Apex about a decade ago. The environment here is one which encourages independent thought and recognizes that we are each responsible individuals. The nature of the work keeps us in the forefront of new technologies and trends in the electronic publishing business.
What kinds of projects and teams do you get to work on?
As a project designer I am involved with nearly all of the e-publishing projects at Apex. The most interesting projects are those which involve historic texts from all areas of study. My experience is wide-ranging and very varied, from “hard sciences” such as medical journals to social science journals, early literature and historic newspapers. For an avid reader like myself, this opportunity to work with such a broad range of material is invaluable.
Tell us about your work area?
Northern Virginia is an exciting region that appears to be undergoing a perpetual economic boom. As such, there is a steady influx of new residents from all over the country, as well as the world. This has resulted in an increasingly multicultural social setting, which allows for new experiences and interests.
What have been your experiences to learn and grow at Apex?
Given the breadth and depth of experiences available at Apex, I’ve developed knowledge about many forms of electronic archival preservation schemes. Apex has always fully supported and actively encourages employees to learn more about fields related to their work.
Also, Apex’s standing in the industry allows for employees to take part in various groups responsible for developing and maintaining standards that are used throughout the business, including the Open eBook Forum.
I started out at Apex as a data delivery operator and have steadily moved into the design role. This development track has given me insight into various aspects of our business and has made me a well-rounded designer.
The hands-on approach and teamwork mentality at Apex ensured that my experience at Apex is filled with great learning potential and excellent growth opportunities. |
