When the nation’s sixth largest publicly owned electric utility issued a competitive bid for a major GIS data conversion project, Apex was selected on the basis of technology expertise, process, and price. The utility serves over 1.4 million people in a 900-square-mile service area and the new database was to be built from existing facilities maps and records, supplemented with new field data collection. Apex used DataWorks®, our open-systems, Oracle-based conversion technology, to convert nearly 3,000 overhead maps and almost 10,000 underground maps, enabling the utility to lead its industry by integrating GIS technology with a comprehensive SAP implementation for its business processes.
