Provide a digital version of historical manuscripts and personal papers for academic researchers and the world at large.

Key Challenge:
As is typical with historical documents such as diaries, letters and newspapers, the condition of the documents presented technical challenges in converting the paper documents. These artifacts can range from minor cosmetic blemishes that do not interfere with visual interpretation of a page to page rips or blotches that render sections of text unreadable.

Apex CoVantage Solution:
Having digitized millions of pages of newspapers from the 17th to the 21st centuries, Apex eliminated or minimized most of the image problems through Apex's proprietary enhancement processes that have been applied with great success over the years. The key to our ability to utilize image enhancement tools is to begin with grayscale images. Grayscale images contain exponentially more information than a bitonal image and can serve as the foundation to create multiple delivery formats for each newspaper page.

Result:
Apex created both clean versions of the documents to allow for easy research and authentic reproductions of the historic documents to present a true historic feel.
